MY CALLING

Why I Do This Work
Most people are more resilient and stronger than they realize.

Most people don’t reach out for help the first time they think about it. Many
spend weeks, months, or even years trying to solve problems on their own
before ever speaking with a counselor — unsure if counseling is right for
them, nervous about the first step, or worried about being judged.

Throughout my life, I’ve been blessed with opportunities to help people
grow, overcome challenges, and discover possibilities they didn’t see in
themselves. Through my work with Urban Champions, I watched young
people and families overcome obstacles that once seemed impossible.
Through years of leadership and professional experience, I saw firsthand
how stress, relationships, family challenges, career pressures, and life
transitions affect people from every walk of life.

Those experiences led me to earn my Master’s Degree in Counseling from
Pepperdine University and dedicate this chapter of my life to helping
people heal, grow, and thrive. What I’ve learned along the way is simple:
most people already have more resilience than they give themselves credit
for. They’ve survived challenges before. They have strengths that can be
developed. And they are capable of creating meaningful change.

The key, for my entire professional career, is helping people in finding,
building and utilizing their STRENGTHS. We all have weaknesses, we all
have issues–but by focusing on helping you uncover and build on your
strengths, you win!

That belief is the foundation of my philosophy — From Struggle to
Strength, and Thriving. Problems matter. Pain matters. Struggles matter.
But growth happens when we also identify and develop the strengths that
already exist within each person.

Background
Clinical training. Real-world leadership.

MA in Counseling, Pepperdine University
Master’s-level clinical counseling training, Graduate School of Education
and Psychology.

Bachelor’s Degree, Grand Canyon University, Emphasis on Child &
Adolescent Behavioral Health
Undergraduate emphasis in child and adolescent behavioral health,
informing the practice’s work with young clients and families.

Certified Registered Behavior Therapist 2018 – 2022
Served students, parents, and educators directly, helping turn unhealthy,
unproductive behaviors into healthy, productive ones — the foundation of
the practice’s Behavioral Struggles work today.

Previously Licensed Minister, A.M.E. Church 1982
Licensed at age 20; ongoing ministry work that informs the practice’s faith-
integrated counseling.

Founder, Urban Champions – 2010 – 2018

confidence, resilience, leadership skills — and social-emotional skills and
executive functional skills to become goal-directed, independent and purposeful.

Ministry, mentoring & advocacy
Decades of experience in youth development, nonprofit management, and
community service across Metro Atlanta, including facilitating GriefShare groups.

Private Practice Launch
A practice built on Connection, Empowerment, and Fulfillment — for
individuals, couples, families, and professionals.

How I Work
Emotion Focused-Therapy, Relational Cultural Therapy, and Strengths-
based Trauma-Focused CBT evidence-based approaches

This isn’t therapy built around what’s wrong with you. It’s therapy built
around what’s already right — and what that strength can become. That’s a
genuinely different energy in the room, and it’s part of why clients tell me
the work feels less like a burden and more like progress they can actually
feel.

Rather than focusing solely on problems, I help clients identify existing
capabilities, develop new skills, strengthen relationships, and build
pathways toward resilience and lasting growth — drawing from:

Guided By Three Principles

01 · CONNECTION
Helping clients feel seen, heard, understood, and supported.

02 · EMPOWERMENT
Building practical skills, confidence, resilience, self-awareness, and healthy
coping strategies.

03 · FULFILLMENT
Creating healthier relationships, meaningful goals, greater purpose, and
personal well-being.

“Vince is genuinely committed to youth and family empowerment, skillfully
bridging mental wellness with strengths-based guidance to help individuals
find their meaning to matter and build lives of purpose.”

— Yas D. Hardaway · Pepperdine University Graduate School of Education
and Psychology
