Damaged By Church Hurt?
There Is Help And Healing For Church Hurt!
“A wounded spirit? Who can bear” (Proverbs 18:14b)
Have you experienced church hurt? Have you ever been hurt by a church or church people? You are not alone. Many people have been wounded in some way by the acts of others in the church, whether it was the Pastor or the members. This can leave you feeling hurt, angry, bitter, abandoned and disillusioned. Church hurt is something you can’t really understand unless you’ve been there. Church hurt goes beyond leaders who don’t practice what they preach or church members who slander one another behind their backs. Church hurt can catapult you into a place of separation from God himself and that’s a dangerous place to be.
Because of the actions of others, you may be reluctant to re-engage and have even turned away from prayer, studying the word or any association at all with the things of God. Church hurt will change hopefulness into hopelessness. After all, if we can’t turn to the church and to God’s people, who else can we turn to?
There Is Hope!
Well, today’s church is not perfect and neither was the church of the bible. Remember that the church is made up of people and that people are not perfect. Disappointment can be hard to overcome but not impossible. With God (not people), all things are possible (Matthew 19:26). Know that it is possible to overcome the disappointment, the bitterness and anger of church hurt.
You can move past all that, find hope again, and still become what God called you to be. God does not want His people to be bound by the effects of the actions or behavior of others. He has given us love, power and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). No one should have the power to steal our joy or control how we feel or behave. That is bondage. Find freedom and liberty from the effects of church hurt.
